What is NTG?
Mercedes Benz uses the abbreviation NTG for their New Telematics Generation Cockpit Management and Data system (COMAND). Over time, they have updated the system, starting with COMAND 2.5 and currently offering the latest version of COMAND NTG 6.0 (MBUX) as of 2019.
To determine your Mercedes NTG version, turn on the factory head unit and access the main menu. The different versions – NTG 4.0/ NTG 4.5/ NTG 4.7/ NTG 5.0/ NTG 6.0 (MBUX) – can be easily distinguished from the image below.

- The system supports wireless Apple CarPlay, pairing via Bluetooth and transferring data over Wi-Fi.
- A new AirPlay function allows connection via USB cable, enabling movie playback, navigation, and music streaming from an iPhone.
- For wired CarPlay, Wi-Fi should be turned off, and the phone must be connected via a Lightning cable to ensure continuous charging.
- Android Auto and Android Mirroring-Link are available for Android devices.
- GPS navigation apps, including Google Maps, Waze, and Apple Maps, are supported, providing real-time traffic updates.
- Music streaming services such as Spotify, Apple Music, and Amazon Music are compatible, with audio playing through the factory PCM media system. Some apps also display lyrics on the screen.
- Enjoy your favourite videos and music seamlessly.
- Voice control is supported through Siri by simply saying, “Hey Siri.”
- Compatible with aftermarket front, rear, and 360-degree cameras, with dynamic guidance lines supported.
- A USB flash drive can be used to play music and videos by connecting it to the CarPlay kit’s USB port.
- An adjustable EQ ensures the best audio quality, allowing customization with pre-sets such as Pop, Rock, Soft, and Standard.
- Full control is available using the OEM buttons.
- The system is plug-and-play with no encryption required.
